I don't really like to discuss politics all that much. I feel as though there's not much we can do about it. If you think about it, unless you're one of those special interest groups that has the money to "buy" a politician, then no matter who you vote for, you're going to get more of the same.
As the title would suggest, this quick post is more about one of those politicians. Barrack Obama.
If you're like me, then you have been sent countless emails that claim that Obama isn't all that patriotic. He won't wear the American flag on his lapel. He's never worked a day in his life. His wife used the term, "Whitey." Barrack is a closet muslim, and the list of ire-raising behaviors and life preferences runs on in those emails.
Whether any of that is true or not, I can't be sure. Obama's camp has launched a new website in an attempt to debunk all of the rumors or theories that are running rampant across this country.
He's an engaging speaker. I like him for one reason. When he speaks, he either has the whole speach memorized, or he just impovs all the way through. Either way, at least he's not reading from a cue card. He's got charisma. I think he took a lesson from Bill Clinton in the speaking arena. I can't wait to hear which intern Obama smoked a cigar with. (old joke, but it works)
For me, none of it matters. For me, one man amongst all those Washington crooks won't make a change, even if it is "Change We Can Believe In." For me, there is only question anyone should have, whether you believe the rumors or not. That question: When the presidency is decided, whose name is going on the Payee line when the big oil companies, special interests and lobbyists write the checks?

You'll always be a woman to me!
If you remove your breasts and take testosterone, but keep your uterus and other exclusively female organs, YOU'RE STILL A WOMAN!!!!
And if you want to have a child, and were born as woman, then dammit, don't mess with that. Taking pills, chopping this or that off, and ruining the natural balance of your body is one thing. To infect a fetus with that type of toxic behavior is like being pregnant and doing drugs. You're messing with the fabric of life. This woman's body doesn't know what the hell is going on as it is. Imagine how the baby's growth will be effected.
The woman in this story (http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=4526582&page=1) took pills and forced an unnatural series of events then wanted her cake too. And I'll say it again. QUIT CALLING HER A MAN!!! SHE IS NOT A MAN. SHE TOOK PILLS AND NOW HAS MORE HAIR, BUT SHE STILL HAS A WOMB. SHE IS A WOMAN!!!!!!!!
Back to the "cake too" portion of this. There are women who can't have children, or are having trouble getting pregnant, and this freak show comes along, with her facial hair and request to be called "Thomas" and she has the gaul to want our attention. Well SHE got my attention. And I am more than irked by this. Can you tell?
Her "self experimentation" and, in my estimation, mutilation, has already resulted in the death of 3 children. Yeah. The WOMAN was once pregnant with triplets.
Look, I'm not trying to tell someone that they can't be different. What I am saying is if you want to be a man, after starting out as a woman, then go at it 100%, and keep it to yourself. Furthermore, if I see that person near my daughter, don't be surprised if I make my daughter look away.

Meetings
Being unemployed, I don't have the luxury of expendable income. I don't have the security of regular paychecks. I don't have to tell you what being unemployed will do to financial stability. But in an effort to focus on the bright side of every situation, which is something I'm trying hard to work on, I have to point out one thing I can enjoy during my "in between jobs" status. I don't have to go to meetings. Of all the things to highlight, why did I pick not going to meetings as a positive? I think it's easier to point out how I came to this realization at such a strange time. While I don't work, my wife does. She works hard. With that being said, I am covering the necessities here at home. Well I have questions. A lot of questions. Questions that only my wife, Lisa, can answer. Questions like, "How much laundry detergent do I use?", or "Where the hell are Emma's socks?". When those questions arise, I need to talk to Lisa. That means calling her at work. So I pick up the phone, dial the number and the process is underway. Inevitably, one of Lisa's co-workers will answer the phone and announce that Lisa is in, yet, another meeting. It's like a ritual for Matthew or Beej (an affectionate name) or Marjorie, all of which have probably figured out, by the time of the phone call, that it's helpless ol' me calling for assistance or guidance.
The point of all of this is MEETINGS. Why is it that all of these companies, all of the bosses, all of the vice-presidents and managers and so on, hold these stupid, time-wasting, useless meetings? Nothing is ever accomplished. And why is nothing ever accomplished? Because too much time is spent on meetings. Stupid, time-wasting, useless meetings.

Seriously! Why wear a belt?
So I'm in the store, waiting in line, and the dork in front of me (making two dorks in the same line) is wearing his jeans like most punks these days........with half of his ass (covered by boxers) protruding over the top. Now this is a STUPID look to begin with, but what made me actually laugh in his face is the fact that he was wearing a belt. I know that I am not the first person to make fun of this, but for the first time there it was, staring me in the face. To exacerbate the issue even more, his pseudo-responsible mother was there in line with him. I have to say, kids these days are truly moronic. I know, when I was this kids age, kids my age and I, wore some of the ugliest clothes and sported some of the most hideous styles ever created. But pants were worn where they were supposed to be.....starting around the waist. To summarize, the youth in question looked like a complete tool. And it's what's in style. No wonder teens are getting pregnant all over the place. Everyone's pants are already half off. Don't tell Michael Jackson.

For the children of Lisa Stebic and Stacy Peterson
Being the father of a 5 year old, I am always concerned with how the future will shape up for my daughter. If you're a parent, you know the feeling. It's something that you plan for financially, with regards to education, health, quality of life and even nutrition. "Drink your milk." Or "Eat your vegetables." While seemingly inconsequential at the time, cleaning their plate becomes a debate of taste versus strong bones or a healthy metabolism.
In keeping with being concerned for my own daughter, on occasion, I catch myself thinking about other kids. I watch the neighbors kids on their bikes or skateboards, and I get nervous, hoping that they don't fall and hit their heads. I look at my brother's kids and smile proudly because they've grown up before my eyes, and a sense of pride comes over me, as their uncle, because they've made it. For the most part, their lives are shaping up. Kudos to my brother and sister-in-law.
Ultimately, I know that all of the kids I see or talk to regularly are going to be fine. They will never have to worry about anything other than the normal adult issues as they go out into the world. They'll have bills to pay, little mouths to feed, cars to fix, home repairs, relationships to cry about or embrace. But none of them will ever have to worry about living in the shadow of controversy over something one of their parents may have done.
It's hard enough losing a mom or dad. It's even harder to lose them too soon. But complicate that with the possibility that the other parent had something to do with that untimely departure, and you can't help but have a therapist's number at the ready.
You can't find a person who hasn't heard of the Lisa Stebic case. Her husband, Craig, is under suspicion for involvement in her disappearance.
And if you think that case got some news coverage, try getting away from the Stacy Peterson case. Her husband, Drew, has received national attention for his possible involvement in her disappearance.
And, yes, in both cases, there are children involved. Children who will, undoubtedly, bump their heads, scrape their knees, or feel the heartbreak of a relationship that goes bad. Their mothers, for all intents and purposes, are gone. Lisa and Stacy can't be found. They're just gone. And public opinion is that their respective husbands had something to do with each of them not coming home. I can't imagine how that must feel. If they aren't yet of age to grasp the complexity of this, then they will be one day. Amidst the sensationalism of the news, these kids get buried behind investigations, and "he said-she said" interviews. Once in a while, you'll see a sister or friend of one of the ladies being interviewed. As I sit there, watching, I hope those children know that there is someone there they can talk to.
If you're like me, you believe, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that both men are guilty of something. At the very least, they are guilty of selfishness. At the very most, well....you can imagine. But the selfishness is the center of it all. These men didn't think about their children. Oh sure, Mr. Stebic and Mr. Peterson like to say that they are protecting their children by keeping the media away, and by bantering about how their kids are priority number 1. Are they really? If they were so important, how could someone be so selfish as to fight, or worse, over where the kids belong. Barring special circumstances, like mental issues or substance abuse, etc., how could any man feel that a child is better without his mother in his life?
As a father of a 5 year old, I can't imagine ever doing anything that would seperate my daughter from her mother. There's no amount of money or individual freedom that could ever overtake the needs of my child.
While there's no definitive proof that these men truly did the unthinkable, the stories told include strife prior to Lisa's and Stacy's disappearances. Stories of greed and selfishness go together with stories of two women who may have begun to feel the need to get out of a bad relationship.
What happened to those women may never be known. But the suspicion will not go away until they are found. So think of Lisa Stebic's children. Think of Stacy Peterson's children. When they grow up, they'll have the bills to pay, little mouths to feed, cars to fix, home repairs, relationships to cry about or embrace. But they will also have something else to deal with. Something that none of us did. They will always have, "We think your dad did it."

Explanations.....some true, some just opinion.
Hey,
It's been a couple of weeks since I posted something here. I've been preoccupied with my daughter being sick for a short stint. I have also been applying for jobs all over the place. During this time, I have received quite a few emails asking what happened at 95.9 and where am I headed. The truth is, while an explanation is always attempted when someone is terminated, the real reasoning remains unclear. Let me be perfectly clear with this: I am not disgruntled or angry or anything like that. The River is, obviously, going in a different direction, a direction in which I didn't fit. I have my suspicions as to the reasoning for letting me go. I feel that I did a good job there. I wasn't the best, yet...but I was getting there. Each day, I feel that I grew as a broadcaster. I was with the station for 7 years, and I am very lucky to have lasted that long. That's not easy to do in the radio industry. Anyway, I had heard that I was supposed to be out of there over a year ago, but the trigger wasn't pulled until this January. I believed that, but I've since developed new theories on what nixed my time there. Understand, as it is within all walks of life, when new management comes in, they have their own ideas of how something should look, sound or feel. That is COMPLETELY understandable. I get that and I agree. If I were a new manager somewhere, I would make the changes that I thought necessary to grow. That's why new managers are hired in the first place. Their primary job is to do what is necessary to make progress. I just want to be clear again....I am not bitching. This is how the business is. So I wish everyone at my old haunt nothing but the best. There are good people there. While I am confident that I can entertain and inform, it was time for me to find another place where I could do that. I look forward to starting something big in the near future.
OK....enough about me. Let's talk "American Idol". The Irish girl, who once had a record contract, needs to go. She ain't that good. David Archuletta....bad night that you can chalk up to being young. He's got way to much raw talent to go home so soon. And the judges forced him out of his comfort zone last week when they told him to get more energy. The guy who did "Eleanore Rigby" sucked. What the hell were the judges listening to? That's all I have for now. Your thoughts are welcomed. I hope to hear from you.

So the writers are back.
The writers have ended their strike, and while that's old news (about a two weeks now), I thought I would hold of on bringing it up until I saw the first show where they could showcase their talents. I watched Saturday Night Live, with Tina Fey the ex-head writer, hosting and the gorgeous Carrie Underwood performing. I know that there are many other shows that were effected by the strike, but SNL is the one show where the writers' talents have to be dead on, mainly due to the immediacy and timeliness of the material. Truth be known, it was just OK. I won't claim that I could do better, but, let's face it, Roger Ebert couldn't produce or direct an Oscar winning movie, but he still gets to critique motion pictures. I will say that I am glad to see something new on television. So thankfully the writers are back. I'll just chalk up their first real job back from the picket lines to rustiness. Can't wait to see next week.
In other news: If you think that the internet is addictive for adults, try having a 5 year old with a Rescue Pet. My daughter can't get enough of the website that goes along with the little, over-priced stuffed animal. This thing, which she named Snowysun, is no more impressive than a carnival toy that you can win by popping a balloon with a dart. Are you still laughing at the name? Well it's not like she didn't want another name, but remarkably, every name she thought of, before Snowysun, was already taken by some other addicted post-toddler somewhere across this great country. On the Rescue Pets website, she can feed a cartoon image of her fluffy friend, or play games with her, or take her to the vet, where there are more games, or buy stuff for the furball. My daughter is so addicted that when she woke up this morning, the first thing she wanted to do was go to the website. And people think that television was being used as a babysitter. Stop by my house sometime. You'll find my daughter glued to the computer while I struggle with the DT's because we only have one computer, and I need my fix of YouTube.
